ABOUT ME
________________________________________________________________________________
Hello! You have arrived at my personal corner of the internet. My name is Arya
Kaul and I am a computational biologist. I recently finished my Ph.D. in
Bioinformatics from Harvard Medical School where I studied
bacterial genome dynamics.
Before that, I completed my undergraduate degree (also in Bioinformatics) from
UC San Diego. While there, I was heavily involved with UBIC and Lab Expo.
Outside of my professional pursuits, I dabble in writing, photography, and
building silly things. This server hosts a significant portion of my
interests.
The best way to contact me is through the contact page.

ABOUT THIS SITE
________________________________________________________________________________
Sometime before I was born, the Internet was a weird and wondrous place.
Everybody used to have their own goofy website cobbled together with bare
HTML/CSS and people would routinely stumble upon delightfully unique sites
and communities.
But eventually this changed.
While the internet of old was primarily created by and for individuals, today's
internet is increasingly dominated by corporate monoliths. Google, Facebook,
Twitter, Reddit, and Amazon have become synonymous with the 'internet.' This
domination means internet surfers are now at the whims and fancies of
corporations who, in the aggregate, only care about collecting & then selling
people's personal data. I yearn for a return to the glory days of ye olden
internet.
As a result, I think everybody can and should have their own website.
Towards that end, here is the Khan Academy course I took to learn HTML & CSS.
Also, this website borrows heavily from the codebase and design philosophy of
KISS Linux's website.
In addition, here are some other websites I have come across that I am a big
fan of. Some of the authors I know personally, and others I don't. This is not
necessarily an endorsement of the content on these sites, merely an appreciative
nod to their existence.
